What is Health Coaching?
Health coaching, also referred to as wellness coaching, is a process that facilitates healthy, sustainable behaviour change by challenging a client to listen to their inner wisdom, identify their values, and transform their goals into action.
Basically, much like a personal trainer or life coach, a health coach steers and motivates clients to fulfil their health outcomes. They don’t medicate or prescribe, rather they educate and inspire. They are the guide on the side providing support and accountability.
I studied at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN) in New York. It’s the world’s largest nutrition school with over 68,000 graduates across the globe. Its unique nutrition philosophy takes a holistic approach to wellness and encourages students to consider relationships, work, exercise, joy etc as essential to building good health.
Lecturers included international experts who are at the forefront of wellness today – leading medical doctors, PhDs, researchers and authorities in nutrition such as Andrew Weil, David Wolfe, Deepak Chopra, Christiane Northrup, Mark Hyman, and Bernie Siegel …. The list goes on.
Some of the nutritional concepts I studied included dietary theories (over 150), bio-individuality (how each person has unique food and lifestyle needs), deconstructing cravings, the food/mood connection, emotional eating, superfoods, Primary Foods and energetics of food. We also studied nutritional science looking at topics around autoimmune disorders, the digestive system, toxins, metabolism, thyroid and blood sugar amongst others.

I currently work with clients on a one-to-one basis for one month, three month or six month programmes. And thanks to this amazing internet thing, I’m lucky enough to work with clients all over the world from the comfort of their home. No matter where you are, we’re just a phone call away.
